KofC vs CDA 2015 Softball Game  On Saturday, September 6, 2015, members of Archbishop Molloy K of C Council #1974 and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Stella Maris #822, their families and their friends met at Freeport’s Randall Park for a friendly game of slow pitch softball. The K of C team was led by our own Worthy Grand Knight Ron Flood, Sr., while Worthy Regent Diana Gibson was leading the CDA team. Both organizations were well represented as the attendance was greater than anticipated. The Executive Director of the CDA, Mary Impellizeri, played in the game while the future CDA National Regent, Helene Shepherd, was cheering her team on from the bleachers. Even Ann Jackson was at the game! It was also a family affair. Husbands played against wives, mothers and daughters played against fathers and sons as grandparents and youngsters cheered them all on. Officially, the Knights had the higher score at the end, but when asked who won the game someone responded, “We all did!” As usual, food was available and plentiful. We are all grateful to those that volunteered to purchase, cook, and serve the delicious food items and beverages. This event was run as a fund-raiser. The total amount that was collected from the sale of the food and drink at this event was donated to OHR Parish Outreach. When asked to comment about this game, Regent Diana Gibson said, “I think it was absolutely terrific.”  “I think people that came had a wonderful time. They had alot of fun.” “It was exciting to watch. People were cheering and there were alot of families there.” “We had wonderful cooks and wonderful food. It was just a great day.” When asked if we should do this again she said, “Absolutely!” Regent Gibson added, “It also showed alot of cooperation between the K of C and the Catholic Daughters. We both worked for our Parish Outreach and it was a good outcome.” Yes, that is a picture of Brother Knight Gene Flaherty at the top left corner of this text box. Additional photos of the game are now viewable from our council’s web site (See the button at the top right of this page). A video of the game should soon be available here as well.
OHR International Night 2015 The Ministry To Catholics of African Ancestry sponsored another successful event in Our Holy Redeemer’s auditorium this past Saturday evening, November 14. Several other Parish Organizations participated in this event by preparing an assortment of some absolutely delicious food representing the various countries of the world. The MC for the night was our very own Sir Knight Gary Etheridge. He looked great at the microphone dressed up in his tuxedo. He also taught us all a few things about the Mandarin language and the most populated cities of the world. Before dinner we were all entertained by an assortment of wonderfully costumed performers and dancers, also representing various cultures from around the world. This added to the International Night theme. The Nartan Rang Dance Academy of Bharatiya Vidya Bhaven represented the country of India. The Hagan-Kavanagh School of Irish Dancers represented Ireland. The Inani Dancers performed African dances. Spanish dances were performed by the La Plena Spanish Dance Company. Finally, it was time to sample the foods of the world. Sir Knight Paul Doyle and his wife Debbie prepared the “American Dish” as the Knights of Columbus contribution to the event. PGK Paul Doyle also served the hot dogs, sauerkraut, mustard and ketchup with the help of PGK Vinnie Mastroianni. Several other Brother Knights were in attendance including our own Grand Knight Ron Flood, Sr., Terry Martinez, Charles Gradante, Jack Impellizeri, and, of course, our Council’s own Chaplain and OHR Pastor, Father Arcoleo. The first photo on the right shows 4th Degree Past Faithful Navigator Paul Doyle and Past Grand Knight Vinnie Mastroianni serving hot dogs and sauerkraut at Our Holy Redeemer’s Annual 2015 International Night Event. The photo to the right of that shows our Grand Knight Ron Flood, Sr., his wife Jackie, and the current Regent of the Catholic Daughters Court Stella Maris #822, Diana Gibson.
